This is one book I will recommend to all leaders if not for anything but the situational leadership styles which it teaches. Every leader must read this book because we are face every now and then with varied situation at each given time. As leaders of organizations we requires varied situational skills to solve various problems.The main concept of the book is understanding and application of situational leadership model within an organization. Thus organization is a living organism with concentration on living individual interaction of people, motivation and leadership. Behavioral scientist theories, discipline, concepts as used by people to make decisions about behavior of individual or group of people through empirical research was the focus. Every situation in any organization is unique on it own and so therefore you can not just hold on to one leadership style for every situation. This book gives leaders the opportunity to apply various leadership style to various leadership situation depending on what the leader wants and subordinates capabilities.Situational leadership impacts power, trains, develops, disciplines constructively, build effective relationship, communicate and leads effective teams. Leadership is situational or contingent. Situational Leadership is based on interplay among (1) the amount of guidance and direction (task behavior) a leader gives. (2) The amount of socio-emotional support (relationship behavior) a leader provides, and (3) the (readiness) level that followers exhibit in performing a specific task function or objectives. The book came as expected when I expected it - I was very pleased.
This book helped me tremendously to develop my organizational management skills. I am a detailed reader, so it breaks information down so that I am able to see the big picture. As I lead, I continue to observe everything that is described within this book regarding the behavior of individuals within the workplace. I have gone on to order and study the abnormal side of organizational behavior.
It's a great, and incisive text book into the way people think and behave. This should be a must read for managers. So many times I've seen policies naively instituted and then spectacularly back fire because the manager has applied an over-simplistic blanket solution. Yes some of the wisdom can be classed as common sense, but this book brings together many ideas and places them in a bigger context.
I'm confident no one buying this is using it not as a text book, but it's so intuitive and boring to read but also uses specific enough language that you'd have to read it for quizzes and whatnot. There were a good number of graphics that were themed well but chapter but it was still super dry
