Blasphemy! Heresy! Not since Bored of the Rings has there been such a blatant desecration of the sacred works of J.R.R. Tolkien! True fans of Middle-earth, rise up against this upstart and his distorted retelling of The Silmarillion, Tolkien's history of the world before The Lord of the Rings. No self-respecting Dark Lord would ever enter a rapping competition, nor would beautiful elf-maidens ever behave like this! The greatest tragic love story in fantasy history was not made possible through the efforts of a ferret, nor were the great battles of Beleriand covered by TV news crews! Don Lloyd's The Sillymarillion dares to be the first and only, and therefore we can claim without contradiction, the funniest, the most outrageous, parody of the wildly famous old professor's fiction in the last generation. The action begins in the land of Valium, an idyllic paradise, but now the tranquility has been shattered by the theft of the magical Siliputi by the Dark Lord Mostgoth. The King of the Neuter has vowed revenge and his people have rebelled against the gods themselves. Fleeing to the continent of Myrtle-earth in pursuit of their enemy, the Neuter become embroiled in a war that will last for hundreds of years, bringing great triumphs and tragedies as the free peoples of the world flight for their very existence. The reader will encounter polka-dotted elves, cross-dressing gods, and rodents possessed by malevolent spirits, but these will all somehow seem strangely familiar...

This is a parody of The Silmarillion, you know, that book about the history of the elves that seems to last a billion years? Well, this is funnier, in a way, but not as long. Yet it also seems to repeat itself a lot. There is only so many times I will find smutty elves funny. And yes, some people may be insulted or outraged. Mostly because the author does seem to hit a few other books, movies and television series while creating this silly masterpiece. I doubt it will be as well remembered as Bored of the Rings, but it will come a close third, after Doon.Product details

The Sillymarillion edition by Donald Lloyd Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I just didn't think it was funny. I love Tolkien and I love parodies, but this just didn't do it for me. I've read funnier parodies of Tolkien's work on fanfiction sites.
I think the best word I can come up with for this book is "tired." And did I mention it wasn't funny?
Perhaps I should first explain the title of this review. Every time I open this book (to any random page) and allow myself to read, I nearly bust a gut from laughing. Now, I will admit to being one of the world's biggest fans of 'The Silmarillion', but I also have a huge sense of humor. I love a good parody. This book is SO silly (in a good way) that you'll derive hours of red-faced, tear-streaked enjoyment from it.
You must have read 'The Silmarillion' to get the impact(a parody is pretty meaningless if one has not read the original), and if you are a 'Tolkien Zealot' you will need to suspend your zeal for the moment and just enjoy this book for what it is hilarious!
Highly recommended (except to people who have recently undergone abdominal surgery)

Tries to do too much and becomes tedious. Bored of the Rings was much superior in lampooning the work Lord of the Rings because the authors didn't try to do too much.
DR Lloyd has followed in the footsteps of the Harvard Lampoon's "Bored of the Rings" with a delightful, if dense, retelling of the Silmarillion. This book is really only for die-hard Tolkien fans, but if you are up for it you will not be disappointed.
The best part of Lloyd's work is in "re-imagining" (as Tim Burton might say) the endless parade of elf and mortal names, god and goddesses, rivers, lakes and streams... on and on with great results. Enter, if you dare, the evil world of Mostgoth and his minions, the irks... Join Cootiegerm and Curad as they struggle to regain the prized creation of their father, the Siliputi... and laugh all the way.
This parody isn't as good as Bored of the Rings, but it stands by itself as a loving tribute of a Tolkien nerd to the Professor (who undoubtedly would not approve!).
This parody gets five stars for have an interesting story as well as the required humor and parody. It kept my interest and was pretty funny in places.
I was surprised how close this stayed to the giant Silmarillion. The names, while clever and so cute, were also quite recognizable. This story even had the epic qualitiy of good guys bad guys, sorrow, and sturggle, all while they try to claim the sillly putty, engage in ritual handholding, and do other foolish things. Not to be missed.
This book is hilarious! I mean that...even in the first few lines, I literally cracked. Lloyd did it right with the shaping and homage to the Silmarillion (which I have read...) and I give this book 5 thumbs up!
